Dr. Hughes, a physicist, has 23 patents in the fields of lasers and electro=optics and has provided laser safety training for more than thirty years.  He has provided such training for both The Laser Institute and his own company and has done so in countries as far east as Kuwait and as far west as Japan.  He has served as an expert witness for several medical laser accidents cases including three involving airway fires.  Dr. Hughes has presented four papers at the International Laser Safety Conference, three on laser medical accidents and one on the  safety aspects of a unique laser application in the railway industry.  During his eight years as a physics professor he taught, among other courses, biophysics which covered the interaction of radiation with human tissue in great detail.

Dr. Hughes feels most comfortable with an interactive style of training in which he highly encourages attendees to ask questions, share safety concerns and make comments at any time.
