Laser Safety Audits

How do you know if your laser safety program is up to date and compliant with federal and state regulations and established national consensus standards? In the United States, the recognized consensus standards are the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) publications. The best way to determine if your program follows government regulations and established laser safety standards is by conducting an independent laser safety audit.

Any injury or fatality due to the unsafe usage of lasers is of course devastating to individuals and to their families. With a focus on customer and employee safety, adherence to state and federal regulations is never optional. It can also bring a hefty citation from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), cause work stoppages, and create costly delays until an OSHA investigation is completed. Additionally, potential lawsuits can cost a company in court settlements, legal fees, and lost employee work time. The best way to determine if your laser safety program is following OSHA regulations, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, any state regulations, and the ANSI Z136 series of laser safety standards is conducting an independent laser safety audit of your program.
