Laser Safety Officer Training for:

Industrial Facilities

A Laser Safety Officer (LSO) is required when operating a hazardous laser system. Usually, industrial laser systems fall under this category if they are used for cutting, drilling, welding, marking, etching, measurement, and detection. If you are assigned to be the LSO, this course will cover the topics necessary to fulfill the LSO requirements at your manufacturing facility according to the American National Standards Institute for Safe Use of Lasers in Manufacturing Environments standard. The course will cover the hazards to the human body and the proper protocols to control these hazards. As part of the course, federal and state regulations and consensus standards will be discussed and how they apply to your manufacturer setting. Additionally, elements of a comprehensive laser safety program along with the duties of the LSO will be explained.

Dates, Time, and Location to be announced.

Medical Facilities

Medical LSO Concept Applications for the PeriOperative Environment

A Laser Safety Officer (LSO) is required when using a hazardous laser system on human tissue. This includes medical laser systems used for surgical, aesthetic, or therapeutic procedures performed in hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, medical spas, and eye clinics, if you were appointed to be the LSO in your medical facility, this course will cover the topics necessary to fulfill the requirements according to the American National Standard for Safe Use of Lasers in Health Care standard. The participant will learn how laser light is generated as well as an overview of how lasers work. The program will then review how various types of laser light affect different biological tissue including the skin and eyes. With these basics provided, the program will guide the participants through laser hazard analysis in the healthcare setting and how to establish a laser safety program.  Additionally, a hands-on laboratory will be held to help further understand laser devices and reinforce concepts taught earlier in the class.

This course is hosted by AdventHealth-Nicholson Center.  The Nicholson Center is a worldwide surgical educational facility dedicated to providing innovative educational programs and hands-on training to physicians.
